The
Why

Why did we conduct this research?

We wanted to understand how adults in Scotland have come to faith in the last five years.

However, much of our missiological understanding have come from studies and research conducted more than 20 years ago. Society and culture have transformed rapidly and significantly, especially with the advent of the internet, smart phones, and social media platforms - all which play a drastic impact on our worldviews.

There were also hardly any recent local studies on how adults come to faith. A UK-based study such as Finding Faith Today by John Finney (2002) was published more than 20 years. Another study conducted in the UK published a report called Talking Jesus (2022) sought to understand what people thought of Jesus, and not how people have come to believe in Jesus.

The Journey to Faith study is intended to understand what the journey to faith looks like and how it may be relevant to us in this current ever-changing landscape.
